Exquisite coffee table by Axel Larsson with a walnut root table top and walnut base, executed by master carpenter Hjalmar Jacksson at Stockholms Hantverksförening. The table top has a dramatic, dark color and pattern and a rim around the edge in a contrasting nuance of wood. Elegantly sculpted legs that narrow towards the floor.

The design is represented in the archives of Stockholms Hantverksförening. This table was part of Stockholms Hantverksförening’s prestigious Hantverkslotteriet, a popular lottery founded in Stockholm in the mid 1800s offering expertly crafted furniture and other items by highly regarded designers. The lottery had big exhibitions aimed at increasing public interest in artisanal pieces and the proceeds were used for the various activities of Stockholms Hantverksförening, among them acquiring a permanent showroom, holding public lectures and funding study trips.
